The Illinois-born sportsman hung up his playing boots, drawing the curtain on an illustrious 16-year career. Derrick Rose took to social media to confirm his retirement from basketball. Additionally, he put out full-page ads in the local newspapers of cities to convey the same. Rose sanctioned the ads in the six locations he has played in, namely Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Memphis, honoring every single fanbase in the process.

Talking about his retirement with ESPN, Derrick Rose stated that he feels extremely satisfied with his decision. “Knowing that I gave my all to the game, I feel confident in my decision,” the ex-Chicago Bulls man said. “Basketball was just the beginning for me. Now, it’s important that I give my all to my family — they deserve that.”

Rose kicked off his NBA career with the Bulls in 2008, becoming their No. 1 overall draft pick that season. The point guard impressed everyone with his consistent performances and capped off his debut campaign by securing the Rookie of the Year award. Rose exceeded his expectations in the 2010-11 season, which made him the youngest MVP in NBA history. Nevertheless, his career took a turn for the worse following his ACL injury in 2012.

Having become a journeyman in the latter phase of his playing days, the three-time NBA All-Stars represented five teams between 2016 and 2024. After requesting to be waived from the Grizzlies’ roster, Derrick Rose finally accepted retirement at the ripe old age of 35.
