Shohei Ohtani finished the regular season by collecting another National League Player of the Week award – his fourth of the season and second in a row.
Ohtani finished his first season with the Dodgers by going 13 for his last 25 with four doubles, one home run, seven RBIs, four stolen bases and a 1.371 OPS over the final six games.
Ohtani finished the year with a franchise-record 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, the most in MLB history by a Japanese-born player (breaking Ichiro Suzuki’s record). He was successful in his last 36 steal attempts, the second-longest streak in Dodgers history behind Davey Lopes’ streak of 38 in a row set in 1975.
Ohtani closed out the season on a 12-game hitting streak, the third-longest of his career behind a 15-game streak in 2023 and an 18-game streak in 2022. During the 12-game streak, Ohtani hit .547 with a .586 on-base percentage, 1.057 slugging percentage, 1.643 OPS, seven home runs, 22 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.
“So now with the regular season over, the accumulated stats don’t matter anymore,” Ohtani said through his interpreter after Sunday’s game in Colorado. “I’m going to be focused on maintaining where I am and making sure that I’m focused throughout.”
The Dodgers will open the postseason by hosting Game 1 of a best-of-five National League Division Series on Saturday against an opponent still to be determined.
