Doom: The Dark Ages Coming to Xbox, PS5, and PC in 2025

The Xbox Games Showcase kicked off with a first look at Doom: The Dark Ages, a prequel to previous Doom titles coming in 2025. It will not be a console exclusive, but will launch Day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The opening crawl tells us of a time before the Doomslayer’s Mars heroics when he was the weapon of Gods and Kings.

Check out the gameplay trailer below.

The trailer sees a fur-cloaked Doomslayer brandishing a shield and weapon combo this time around. There’s a shield parry system, some gnarly new weaponry, and naturally, a very metal aesthetic.

The game has been in development for four years and was previously codenamed Year Zero. Early reports had suggested a medieval-inspired world. That’s undoubtedly tuned out to be true.

Microsoft recently came under heavy criticism for shutting several studios under Bethesda’s banner. These include The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, Dishonored and Prey studio Arkane Austin.
