Downtown Disney store closes after a decade to make room for new shop

A Downtown Disney destination for sandals and flip-flops for more than a decade has shut its doors to make room for a new shop that may soon be selling trendy backpacks sporting Disney designs or delectable bath soaps shaped like donuts and cupcakes.

The California Sole shoe and sandal store closed in early May at the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall next to Disneyland.

“It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to California Sole Anaheim at the Downtown Disney District,” California Sole owners Wayne and Cate Heck posted on the store’s official Instagram account. “While we’ve had a great ride and will never forget our loyal customers, it’s time for us to pursue some of our lifelong passions and interests.”

The Disneyland Resort looks forward to sharing more details about the future of the former California Sole space in the Downtown Disney District at a later date, according to Disneyland officials.

The reimagined California Sole store opened in summer 2020 during the pandemic closure of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The former Sanuk sandal shop had been a Downtown Disney mainstay since debuting in 2011.
