Drier Friday before more storms return this weekend

Storms will continue across New Mexico through Thursday night. Drier air briefly moves in Friday, bringing lower chances for rain and thunderstorms.

Showers and storms once again med across New Mexico Thursday afternoon and evening. Storms dropped heavy rainfall at times and produced gusty winds. Showers and storms are tapering off tonight, with drier weather to start the day Friday. Drier air will continue to move in Friday, bringing lower chances for rain and thunderstorms. However, a few isolated showers and storms will still develop Friday afternoon.

A backdoor cold front will bring in higher moisture once again into New Mexico Saturday morning. This will cause more showers and thunderstorms to develop Saturday afternoon, especially across northeastern and northern New Mexico. A plume of monsoon moisture will set up across the state starting Sunday and continue into Monday. The combination of all of this will bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms Sunday and Monday, along with the potential for more heavy, flooding rainfall.

Isolated afternoon storm chances will continue into the middle of next week. Drier air will return statewide for the Fourth of July holiday.
