ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two people are accused of leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase throughout the metro all the way out to Edgewood after they were caught street racing.

It all started early Saturday morning when a New Mexico State Police Officer spotted a Dodge Challenger heading westbound on I-40 near University. The officer clocked the driver at 124 mph in a 65.
The criminal complaint stated that the driver, 20-year-old Jaymin Giro, was weaving in and out of traffic and nearly hit other drivers on the road. That’s when Albuquerque Police Air Support came in and tracked the chase from above.
The officer caught up with Giron at Rio Grande and Central and attempted to get him to stop but he refused. The complaint goes on to say Giron turned off his headlights and ran multiple red lights before going eastbound on I-40 leaving Albuquerque.
Over 30 miles later, Giron stopped in Edgewood and attempted to fill up at a gas station. An officer tried again to stop him but he sped off.
He did not make it far before Santa Fe County deputies spiked the Challenger’s tires just east of the Wild Life West Nature Park on I-40. Giron and his passenger, 18-year-old Eva Fernandez Montoya, took off on foot into the brush nearby. Officers took both Giron and Montoya into custody.
Giron told officers he “consumed some “Jose Cuervo tequila.” The citation stated Giron blew a .06. He is facing multiple charges including aggravated DWI and aggravated fleeing. The state has asked that he be held in custody through trial.
Montoya, the passenger, is facing charges for resisting and evading an officer.
