Edward Iordanescu Leaves Romania’s National Football Team

RMAG news

Edward Iordanescu left position as head coach of Romania’s National Football Team. Romania’s Football Federation and the former coach announced the news on Monday, July 22.

As reported by sources, the problem with prolonging the contract was the salaries of Iordanescu’s assistants. However, Iordanescu was one of Europe’s worst-paid National Team coaches, with a EUR 20K monthly salary.

Unfortunately for him, the Romanian Football Federation showed it had certain limits in paying the head coaches. This is the context of Edward Iordeanescu’s announcement, which mentioned only family-related situations that led to his decision.

We promised to go to the EURO to fight with all our being and make the Romanians proud of this team. That’s what I did. Moreover, at the final tournament in Germany, the spirit of the national team united Romanians everywhere and once again showed the true face of Romania, regaining the whole world’s respect through sacrifice and dignity.
But at the same time, I promised my family, during the difficult moments I went through on this journey when they suffered and supported me beyond everything, that I would also fulfill my duty to them after I had thoroughly done my duty to the national team and Romania. Now is the time to keep my word to my family.
