Fewer storms & more 90-degree temperatures

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Stable weather has overtaken the region with cool conditions this morning once again as the northwestern two-thirds of the region is predominantly dry, while lingering low-level moisture is accompanied with patchy fog in the southeast corner of New Mexico with light showers mostly to the east. While mostly clear skies, light winds, and plenty of dry air in the atmosphere has lead to another below-normal morning of temperatures, it’s a tad less chilly, but temperatures have once again dipped around the freezing mark in the highest of elevations in The Northern Mountains, while everywhere else is mostly starting off in the 40’s, 50’s, and lower 60’s.

As temperatures across the region rise from the morning school commute into the upper 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and low 90’s by the afternoon, lingering moisture to the southeast, as well as The Northern Mountains, along with just enough daytime heating, will still lead to a few areas receiving at least some doses of rainfall across the viewing area. While most of the region will still be mostly dry today, storms will be most likely in The San Juan Mountains, parts of The Sangre de Cristo Mountains, The Northeastern Highlands eventually, and for some along the far-southeastern corner of New Mexico. Urban and arroyo flooding will be very unlikely. Within the areas that may rain, very small hail, gusty winds, and some lightning strikes are possible.

While even more-stable air starts to build in throughout the region today, a brief injection of more-unstable conditions aloft from the north, along with a cold front from the east-northeast, will arrive later tomorrow. More storms are briefly more likely tomorrow and while conditions will dry out this weekend, temperatures will remain near to slightly above normal.
