“We’re gonna turn you pro! And you’re gonna save this place.” 🎳 An early promo trailer is out for a sports comedy film called The Gutter, made by comedy brothers Isaiah Lester & Yassir Lester. This indie bowling satire stars Shameik Moore as a guy who gets a job at the bowling alley’s bar only to end up training to become a pro and conquer a bowling champion (played by Sarandon channeling a “Karen”). This plot seems to borrow from the classic Kingpin (make money pro bowling), which for decades has been one of the only bowling comedies to ever exist. Now there’s another! The Gutter is an outrageous and hilarious spin on the sports comedy. Walt is pressured to embrace his bowling talent, sparking backlash from detractors seeking to undermine his sudden pro success. Starring Shameik Moore, Susan Sarandon, D’Arcy Carden, Jay Ellis, Jackée Harry, and Paul Reiser. This premiered at SXSW 2024 earlier this year and will play at the London Film Festival next this fall – and it’s still seeking distribution.
