Flash flooding threat continues into this week

Heavy rain has caused more life-threatening flash flooding in the Ruidoso area today. Storms could continue to bring burn scar flash flooding this upcoming week.

Numerous showers and storms have developed again today, especially along and west of the central mountain chain. Storms have once again been dropping heavy rainfall. Th Ruidoso area has picked up over 2″ of rain in some areas due to training thunderstorms, and this has caused dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding. Storms may continue across the Sacramento Mountains through sunset tonight. In western New Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley, some showers will continue overnight and into Monday morning.

An active monsoon pattern continues through Wednesday. Most of New Mexico will continue to see daily chances for afternoon showers and storms, with the exception of far southeastern New Mexico. Storms will again be capable of heavy rainfall which could lead to more burn scar flash flooding.

Drier weather moves in for the Fourth of July, along with hotter temperatures. Some moisture will move back into the state with a backdoor cold front Friday. However, the best chances for rain will stay along and east of the central mountain chain in eastern New Mexico.
