US rockers Foo Fighters are reportedly in talks to embark on an indefinite “hiatus”.
The decision reportedly arrived after singer and guitarist Dave Grohl revealed that he’d recently become a father to a daughter outside of his marriage.
According to a report in the US version of The Sun, Grohl wants to be at home to focus on “earning back the trust of his family,” the band reportedly feels “a hiatus is the best thing for them collectively.”
The report arrived after Foo Fighters suddenly cancelled their first live show after Grohl had shared the baby news. The band didn’t appear at the Soundside Music Festival in Connecticut, which took place from 28 to 29 September.
It’s been a tough time for the band and Grohl in particular over the last few years. There was the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022, the death of Grohl’s mother in August of that year, an album that worked through the band’s grief (But Here We Are), more touring, and now, the revelation that Grohl is a father to a child outside his marriage.
Sharing a statement on social media, Grohl announced on 11 September: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
Grohl added that he loves his wife and children and is doing “everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.
“We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Grohl and his wife, Jordyn, married in 2003 and share three daughters – 18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Harper, and 10-year-old Ophelia.
Foo Fighters last toured in Australia in November and December 2023, with The Music’s Sam Mead remarking of the band’s gig at HBF Park in Perth, “With a setlist lasting over two and half hours, this Foo Fighters experience isn’t for the faint of heart, but if your legs can last that long, you’re in for a treat spanning 30 years in the making.”
