NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A major food bank in New Mexico signed a deal on Tuesday morning with fellow food banks across the border in Mexico. The International Food Exchange Project is an agreement between Roadrunner Food Bank and a coalition of 58 Mexican food banks.
With this deal, they hope to get food out to people who need it most while cutting down on food waste. “What we’ve been doing has been very informal for the last several years. Forming this partnership, number one we want to bring a lot of attention to the issues of food insecurity on both sides of the border and also food waste,” said President Dana Yost, Roadrunner Food Bank.
Food sharing is already a common practice between food banks in the state. This is the first time an official agreement has been reached between international partners.
