Former Clovis movie theater manager sues Allen Theatres for age discrimination

CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against Allen Theatres, Inc., alleging age discrimination against a former Clovis employee. The alleged actions of Allen Theatres violate the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, which aims to stop companies from discriminating against employees based on their age during hiring, firing, and compensation.

According to the lawsuit, the president of Allen Theatres forced Abby Parrish, the then-manager of a Clovis theater, to retire in September 2020. When Parrish attempted to return to work in March 2021, the company refused to give him the job because he was 72 years old. Parrish worked for the company for more than 30 years.

The lawsuit also alleges that Allen Theatres stopped paying for Parrish’s family health insurance coverage when he reached the age of 65, based on a “discriminatory company compensation policy.” That same policy also resulted in Allen Theatres paying less to employees ages 65 and over.
