Former intelligence chief to become Dutch PM as part of ‘business cabinet’

Dick Schoof to lead cabinet of political appointees and experts five months after far-right Freedom party finished first in elections

A top justice ministry official and former intelligence chief is to be the new Dutch prime minister, the public broadcaster NOS has reported, five months after Geert Wilders’ far-right Freedom party (PVV) finished first in parliamentary elections.

Dick Schoof, the highest official at the justice and security ministry, will be formally nominated as the preferred candidate by the four parties making up the Netherlands’ right-wing coalition government on Tuesday, NOS said.
