As a result, many fans of General Hospital have launched an online petition to stop the exit of Kelly Monaco from the series.
General Hospital fans sign petition to retain Kelly Monaco with over 10,000 signatures
The appeal to stop Kelly Monaco’s exit from General Hospital was registered by a fan and has already received over 10,000 signatures, intending to acquire 15,000 notations.
The 48-year-old actress first joined the long-running series as Sam McCall in October 2003. In the two decades since making her debut, Monaco has gone on to feature in over 2,000 episodes of the show. She has also managed to establish a strong fanbase among viewers. As such, many dedicated followers of the soap drama have come out to voice their displeasure over her abrupt exit.
According to a report by Soap Opera Network, Monaco was unaware of her planned exit from the show. Instead, the Port Charles star was “blindsided” by the creators’ unexpected decision to get rid of her character. In order to protest Kelly Monaco’s removal, a fan named Holly V decided to start a petition on Change.org. Holly emphasized the importance of Sam McCall to General Hospital, calling her the show’s core, and the significance that the character holds to longtime fans.
Despite the growing appeal to retain Kelly Monaco as Sam McCall, the General Hospital producers have yet to issue an official reply. Therefore, the beloved character is slated to exit the show later this fall, as things currently stand.
