Gov’t to adopt today minimum wage hike

The gross minimum wage will rise from 3,300 lei to 3,700 lei starting July 1, as per a decision set to be adopted by the Government today, following discussions with unions and employers. Additionally, based on the employers’ proposal, the Government will adopt an ordinance increasing the non-taxable portion of the minimum wage from 200 lei to 300 lei until the end of the year.

Thus, a person paid the minimum wage in the economy will have a net salary of 2,363 lei. Currently, the employee receives 2,079 lei minimum net wage.

The increase of the non-taxable amount from 200 lei to 300 lei, simultaneously with the increase of the minimum gross salary per country guaranteed in payment established by Government Decision to 3,700 lei from July 1, 2024, generates an impact on budget revenues of minus 261 million lei, informs the Ministry of Finance . This is for 5 months of application.

“Today’s most anticipated decision is the increase of the minimum wage from 3,300 to 3,700 lei per month, from July 1. It is a measure agreed with the social dialogue partners, which benefits over 1.8 million employees in Romania. Also, at the request of the business environment, we approved the increase from 200 lei to 300 lei of the untaxed monthly amount”, Prime Minister Ciolacu announced, explaining that employees thus receive an additional 284 lei per month.

According to the Minister of Labor, a number of 1,871,266 employees will benefit from the increase of the minimum gross basic salary per country guaranteed in payment to 3,700 lei.

The minimum wage in the construction sector remains at 4,582 lei gross from January 1, 2024, which means that an employee paid in this way will still have 3,196 lei in hand. As for employees in agriculture and the food industry, the salary remains at 3,436 lei gross, which translates into a net of 2,396 lei.
