18-year-old guitar prodigy Grace Bowers has shared a new single, adding her unique stamp to the Led Zeppelin classic “Going to California.” Bowers feminized the cover by tapping into the talent of an all-female, all-star ensemble of Nashville up-and-comers: British singer-songwriter Lucie Silvas, country music singer Caroline Jones, and seasoned vets SistaStrings and Sierra Hull on mandolin.
Bowers’ instrumental originality shines through as she embellishes Jimmy Pages’ signature lead
with temperamental, blues-shifted riffs, adding a new dimension to the original composition from Led Zeppelin’s 1971 album, IV. This comes after Bowers’ Instrumentalist of the Year honor at the 2024 Americana Awards. Reflecting on her latest release, Bowers shared via press release: “This Led Zeppelin song has always had a special place in my heart.”
She added context to the song’s arrival, “After performing it live with these women at my charity show, I realized that there was something special to be captured. I hope you enjoy this reimagining of the original song!”
In line with today’s announcement, the artist has fittingly announced that she is going to California, where she will perform at the historical Troubadour in West Hollywood on January 30, 2025. Bowers’ latest moves come after the success of her debut album, Wine On Venus, which was released via the Orchard and produced by John Osborne (Brothers Osborne), who also had a hand with today’s single.
Moreover, tapping into the jam sphere, Bower will participate in the January 2025 edition of Dead Ahead in Mexico, joining the ranks of Grateful Dead great Bobby Weir and others before headlining concerts in Japan, New York City, and, as mentioned, Los Angeles.
