Great Britain make stuttering start to historic bid for America’s Cup glory

Day one: Emirates Team New Zealand 2-0 Ineos BritanniaTechnical problem hampers British boat on opening day

After 10 years of work, and a long final 30 minutes waiting for the wind to pick up, Ineos Britannia’s challenge for the 37th America’s Cup got off to the worst possible start. The team are two-nil down in the best-of-13 series after the first day of racing.

The Great Britain skipper, Ben Ainslie, and his team need to find a way to catch up, fast, if they are going to stop the series running away from them. “It’s not the start we were looking for,” Ainslie admitted. “We just couldn’t quite match them around the track, but there’s a few things for us to work on.”
