According to the “Closer” singer, Spears was fully on board with her 2000 hit being repurposed and interpolated in Halsey’s upcoming track of the same name. “yes of course!” they wrote on X Thursday (July 18) when asked by a fan whether the “Toxic” musician had been involved.

Halsey added, “I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!”

The revelation comes one day after the MaXXXine star announced that “Lucky,” the first official single off her upcoming album, will arrive July 26. They also shared a sneak peek at the track, as well as posted its pink Y2K-inspired cover art.

“When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me,” Halsey wrote on Instagram earlier this month. “24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever.”

The “Without Me” artist also answered several other fan questions on X Thursday, including queries about the inspiration behind her new music. “I wrote a lot about what I was going through,” Halsey said. “I felt like I couldn’t tell anyone, though it was mostly my choice to not. but the weight of it all and looking at my life wondering if I was happy with who I was. While simultaneously changing against my will.”

In June, the musician dropped “The End,” a pre-cursor to their next era. The raw lyrics found Halsey singing about her recent diagnoses with Lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.

“I tried to take a break for some privacy. And then I got sick,” Halsey reflected in another tweet. “And the break lasted 2 years longer than I had wanted/intended. and I was just desperate to do the thing I love again. It’s different now. But I still love it and I have so much gratitude.”

The three-time Grammy nominee also seemed to hint that she plans on hitting the road after the album’s release while addressing a fan who asked, “is a tour realistic for this era?”

“I’m ⭐️running⭐️ to the stage,” they replied.
