Yesterday, American alt-pop performer Halsey revealed that they’re “lucky to be alive” in a series of candid videos and photos posted to Instagram in promotion of new single The End.
Throughout the post and the caption, the singer and actor didn’t reveal what had gotten them so sick. However, in a new social media post, Halsey shared that she’s been diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.
“Thank you guys for the unbelievable amount of love for ‘The End’ and the support you’ve shown me since its release,” Halsey began in a lengthy Instagram caption alongside what we assume are new promo photos for The End.
She continued, “I realize [sic] everyone is catching up with news I’ve held in for a very long time, and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share. You’ve all been so kind so I want to share a bit more.
“In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life.”
After Halsey experienced a “rocky start,” the Without Me singer wrote that they “slowly got everything under control” with the help of “amazing doctors”.
She concluded, “After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all 🤍 Singing and screaming my heart out.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus is a disease where your body’s immune system attacks your tissue and organs, with inflammation caused by lupus able to affect one’s joints, heart and lungs, skin, kidneys, blood cells, and the brain.
Meanwhile, the rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder can “cause an uncontrolled production of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell,” per Medical News Today. This disrupts your body’s ability to maintain a balanced immune system.
The End – and Halsey’s upcoming album – serve as the follow-up to her 2021 album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, produced by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
