Heatwave Sweeps Romania, 36°C Highs Expected in Bucharest

Meteorologists have issued a yellow and orange heat code, valid for today and tomorrow. Temperatures will reach up to 37 degrees, thermal discomfort will be high and there will be tropical nights in several counties in the country.

“In the mentioned interval, in Banat, Oltenia, most of Muntenia, as well as in the south of Crișana and the south-west of Transylvania, high temperatures will be recorded for this date, the maximums will generally be between 32 and 35 degrees and local will be hot. Thermal discomfort will be high, with the temperature-humidity index (ITU) reaching and slightly exceeding the critical threshold of 80 units. Locally, the night will be tropical, with minimum temperatures around 20 degrees”, the National Meteorology Administration said.

“The heat wave will intensify in Banat, Oltenia, the western half of Muntenia, as well as in southern Crișana and southwestern Transylvania, where particularly high temperatures will be recorded for this date . The maximums will generally be between 33 and 37 degrees, there will be heat and thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The night will be tropical, with minimum temperatures around 20 degrees. In the coming days, the heat wave will persist in most of the country, and the thermal discomfort will remain accentuated”.Up to 36C in Bucharest

The weather will remain warm from today at 10:00 a.m. until tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., it will be hot in the afternoon, and the thermal discomfort will be high in the afternoon hours, when the humidity temperature index (ITU) will reach the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be 33…35 degrees, and the minimum 17…20 degrees.

The sky will be mostly clear, with some clouds in the evening, when there will be conditions for showers and lightning.

Between 19.06.2024 at 10:00 a.m. and 20.06.2024 at 10:00 a.m., the weather will be hot, with high thermal discomfort and a humidity temperature index (ITU) that will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be 35…36 degrees, and the minimum 17…21 degrees. The sky will be mostly clear and the wind will be light to moderate.
