Heavy rain, flash flooding threat continues through late Monday evening

Storms today will continue to bring another threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding through late Monday evening. Drier weather moves in for the rest of this week, but isolated storm chances continue.

Scattered afternoon storms are again bringing a threat of heavy rain and flash flooding to parts of New Mexico Monday afternoon. A Flood Watch continues for parts of northern, central, and south-central New Mexico through late this evening. Most storms will end by late this evening, but a couple storms may stick around through the early overnight hours. High-resolution forecast models bring storms over the Ruidoso burn scar areas later this evening, which could increase the risk of burn scar flash flooding. These storms will also move out late tonight.

Even fewer storms are expected Tuesday afternoon as drier air moves into the state and temperatures begin heating up again. That being said, storms will again form across the mountain ranges early in the afternoon and drift south through the afternoon and into the evening. Storms could again drop heavy rain and bring a threat of flash flooding before storms end late Tuesday night.

Drier air will continue to move into New Mexico through Thursday, as rain chances will mainly stay across the higher elevations and western New Mexico. We get a bigger surge of monsoon moisture into the state again on Friday, and this will bring back a slightly higher chance for showers and thunderstorms across New Mexico into the weekend.
