The month of June began on a positive note for fans of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. Netflix India recently announced that the magnum opus has been picked up for a second season. While fans are elated with the news, many have brought the discussion around Sharmin Segal’s portrayal of Alamzeb back to the table. Netizens are demanding the actress’s removal from the show or a replacement.
On June 3, 2024, Netflix India dropped a clip from an Mumbai event where 100 dancers could be seen performing while wearing Heeramandi-inspired attire. They took breaths away with their dance on a fusion of all the tracks from the show. By the end of the clip, the makers announced Heeramandi Season 2 with a beautiful formation.
The performance is receiving much love from the audience, but netizens are focusing more on the Heeramandi Season 2 cast. The post’s comment section is filled with netizens demanding either the replacement or removal of Sharmin Segal from the upcoming season. An Instagram user wrote, “Petition to not cast Sharmin as Alamzeb.” On the other hand, another user demanded, “Please remove alam’s character and bring taha as tajdar’s son.” Many also asked to bring Aditi Rao Hydari back to the show.
Heeramandi Season 2: Why do netizens want Sharmin Segal replaced?
For the unversed, the Netflix series Heeramandi opened to mixed reviews. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision was praised, Sharmin Segal’s performance was widely criticized. However, the actress has spoken about online hate and revealed how she reflects on the positives.
In a recent interview with News18, the actress said, “I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about. It’s perhaps not interesting enough to talk about positives and we tend to look over them to some degree”
