Hot and dry before cooler and wetter conditions late week

Today will be mostly sunny across the state with only a couple of storms possible in southeast NM this evening. Breezes will continue to pick up during the afternoon to around 35 mph in western New Mexico and eastern NM. The Rio Grande Valley will see lighter winds of around 25 mph. The breezier winds and extremely dry air in the state lead to high fire danger, and Red Flag Warnings will be in effect in western NM, the Upper Rio Grande Valley and the northeast highlands. Temperatures will be warmer than normal, climbing into the 80s, 90s and 100s again. Similar conditions are expected Tuesday. The weather pattern will change later this week. Temperatures will cool down as rain chances increase across the state Wednesday through Sunday.
