How’s Romania Employee Engagement?

In Romania, 36 percent of employees are engaged at work, according to a latest Gallup survey. This compares to the Europe regional average of 13 percent and the global average of 23 percent. Employee engagement has increased by two percentage points in recent years, based on a three-year rolling average. In this report, employees are defined as adults aged 15 and older who were employed for any number of hours by an employer.

According to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report, the global percentage of engaged employees—those who feel involved and enthusiastic about their work—remains at 23%, matching the record high from 2022. However, the majority of employees are not engaged (62%), meaning they do the bare minimum and lack inspiration, or are actively disengaged (15%), indicating they are unhappy with their managers and jobs and are actively looking for new employment.

Employee engagement reflects the involvement and enthusiasm of employees in their work and workplace. Gallup has found that engaged teams drive positive outcomes within organizations. Gallup estimates that low engagement costs the global economy U.S. $8.9 trillion, or 9% of global GDP.

Gallup’s recent meta-analysis of over 183,000 business units across 53 industries and 90 countries reveals that teams in the top quartile for employee engagement are 23% more profitable than those in the bottom quartile. This increased profitability is attributed to better retention of top talent, superior customer service, higher-quality output, and other factors that drive profit. Organizations achieving world-class employee engagement consistently enhance management effectiveness at all organizational levels.
