Inspired by her moonshining great-grandfather Beyoncé launches new whiskey

Queen Bey could become the queen of whiskey as Beyoncé gets into the alcohol business with a new spirit inspired by her moonshining great grandfather.

The multi-Grammy-winning star has partnered with whiskey maker Moët Hennessy to create a new luxury brand dubbed SirDavis.  According to a release the whiskey is named after Davis Hogue, Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather who was a farmer and a moonshiner during Prohibition and stashed whisky bottles in the empty knots of cedar trees.

“I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” the singer said in a statement. “When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated,” the statement continued.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Texas-born singer Beyoncé is releasing a whiskey since she’s mentioned her love of the spirit before, including in her latest album “Cowboy Carter.”

In songs like “II Hands II Heaven,” she sings  “Bottle in my hand, the whiskey up high.” And on “Bodyguard,” she sings  “Inhalin’ whiskey when you kiss my neck.”

According to the release, the American whiskey is made up of 51% rye and 49% malted barley and is reminiscent of Japanese and Scotch whiskies while still retaining the robust and deep flavors of classic American rye. The flavor profile is described as silky and sophisticated with layers of dark red fruits and spices like clove and cinnamon.

Like its founder, the whiskey has already earned several awards including Best In Class for American Whiskey from the 2023 SIP Awards and a Gold Medal  from the 2023 New York International Spirits Competition, according to the release.

SirDavis sells for $89 and is available for pre-order at SirDavis.com and will be available at retail stores across the U.S. in late September as well as in a few airports including LAX.
