With the sudden news about The Boys ending with Season 5, series star Jack Quaid released a statement revealing that it “has been the plan for a long time.” The actor also shared that he expects nothing but an “incredible finale” from creator Eric Kripke and the show’s “amazing writers.”

Since the first season, Quaid has portrayed the fan-favorite civilian tech specialist Hughie Campbell alongside Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher and Antony Starr’s Homelander. The fifth season, which Prime Video recently ordered in May, will unfortunately be the show’s last. Meanwhile, the first three episodes of the upcoming fourth season will arrive on the streamer on June 13.

What did Jack Quaid say about The Boys ending?

Ahead of the Season 4 premiere, showrunner Kripke announced that Season 5 of the hit series will be its final season, saying that it has always been what he intended to do and that the series will have a “gory, epic, [and] moist climax.” With the hit satirical superhero series ending with Season 5, Quaid also took to social media to share his sentiments about the unexpected news.

“Yes [The Boys] will be ending with Season 5, but don’t worry! This has been the plan for a long time. This will be the ending our show-runner intended. I trust [Eric Kripke] and our amazing writers to deliver an incredible finale,” Quaid wrote. “In TV it’s such a rare gift to be able to go out on your own terms, so I’m immensely excited to see what season 5 has in store. I’d like to thank the fans who got us this far. We truly couldn’t have done this without you. You’re all [incredible] truly. In the meantime, Season 4 premieres in 2 days, so buckle the fuck up.”

The Boys is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series. The series is set “in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame,” centering “on a group of vigilantes known informally as ‘The Boys,’ who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.”

In addition to Quaid, Urban, and Starr, the fourth season is expected to see the return of Laz Alonso as Marvin, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Claudia Doumit as Nadia Khayat, and more.

Season 4 will also feature series newcomers Valorie Curry, Susan Heyward, Rosemarie DeWitt, Rob Benedict, and Elliot Knight.

Other details about The Boys Season 5 are still under wraps.
