Jack White Drops Surprise New Album

Jack White has surprise-released an unnamed new album that’s been given away for free at the physical locations of his record label, Third Man Records (Detroit, Nashville, and London). It’s available for one day only.

The album, released on vinyl, is packaged in a blank sleeve with the words “NO NAME” in the middle of the record. Lucky record buyers received the album for free with any purchases they made at Third Man Records locations on Friday (19 July), but so far, there’s no information on how limited the album actually is.

A member of the Detroit Metro Times received a copy of the unnamed Jack White album. The music is described as “stripped-down” and “guitar-heavy” in comparison to his most recent albums, Fear Of The Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive, both released in 2022.

On the Jack White subreddit, one fan described songs on the new album as “bangers,” adding that the release contains the “most raw JW since The White Stripes by far.” Another fan called the record “fucking killer,” while someone else wrote: “This is the Jack White album I’ve been waiting for for many years. Straight on rockers. Nothing fancy, just letting it rip.”

According to a Consequence Of Sound report, Side A of the record contains seven songs, and Side B features six. Etchings on the record read “Heaven And Hell” and “Black And Blue”.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear if the album will make it to streaming services.

In November 2022, Jack White came to Australia for a one-off exclusive performance as a headliner of the inaugural Harvest Rock Festival in Adelaide.

The Music reviewer Melissa Griffin said of his performance, “Jack White takes to the stage in a flurry of energy – shocking blue hair visible even from the back of the large gathered crowd. The set list consisted of an array of songs from his many musical outlets spanning his lengthy career, including tracks from his critically acclaimed 2022 solo album Fear Of The Dawn and the anthemic track of the infamous Detroit garage-punk duo The White Stripes, Seven Nation Army.”
