Last night, country musician/”Highway Boy” Zach Bryan returned to the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to close his regional stay after arriving the night prior, June 3, for the first of two back-to-back concerts at the venue above. During the June 4 show, the headliner brought out a special guest at two points; John Mayer took the opportunity to assist on the unreleased “Better Days” and later, for the encore, “Revival.”

The pair’s journey to Tuesday night’s collaboration can be traced back to a February 2022 Tweet from the country artist, who referenced seeing Mayer live at Madison Square Garden in New York City while “painfully sober,” calling the performance not overrated and even ranking Mayer as a top three genius of our time. Notably, Bryan teased the potential for studio work last fall with a now-deleted post to social media, capturing the pair and others in a studio-like setting.

During the Tuesday concert, Mayer arrived a couple of songs into the halfway point, first helping out on the yet-to-be-released “Better Days,” a concert frequenter for the artist on the latest leg of his tour. After leaving the stage and allowing the billed act to add originals to the night’s stats, Mayer reappeared during the evening’s encore, a single song delivery of the Elisabeth originator, “Revival.”

Mayer’s sit-in arrived before Dead & Company’s fourth week of residency concerts, which will pick up tomorrow, June 6. Sphere shows will continue throughout the weekend, June 7 and 8. Tickets remain on sale.
