The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin, released episode 22 on May 26, 2024. The episode primarily focuses on Fan Xian (Zhang Ruoyun) interrogating Chancellor Lin, Wan Er’s (Li Qin) father. As he stands before him, many contradicting thoughts cloud his mind. He finds himself in a dilemma about whether he should arrest the chancellor and upset Li Qin or not. Meanwhile, he also knows that his conscience would not allow him to bend the law for his own benefit.

With all this in mind, Fan Xian politely asks the chancellor if the allegations brought against him are true. Chancellor Lin mocks Fan Xian for not being stern enough. He recalls befouling with names during the previous spring examination but refuses to acknowledge the murder charges. He hands Fan Xian a list of the names of the officials who were in charge of the previous examination and advises him to start looking into their deeds.

But Fan Xian is still not convinced. Furthermore, Lin Ruo Fu cunningly changes the direction of the interrogation. He is suspicious of Fan Xian, as he started the investigation only a few days after receiving the responsibility from the emperor. He asks Fan Xian if it was the victim’s family who contacted him. Furthermore, he burns the list he had given him a few moments later.

Meanwhile, Ruo Hai and Fan Jian visit President Chen Ping Ping to request that he take Fan Xian out of the investigation. They believe Fan Xian is not eloquent enough to investigate someone as influential as Lin Ruo Fu. Furthermore, they remind him that he is Fan Xian’s future father-in-law. This investigation will definitely cause misunderstandings between them.

Chen Ping Ping assures them that he has thought of every possible outcome before assigning Fan Xian the case. Ruo Hai offers to take on the case on Fan Xian’s behalf to protect him, but Ping Ping turns down his request.

Meanwhile, the Overwatch Council, led by Yan Bing Yun, safely escorts the accuser in a palanquin. While passing by the market, she is recognized by a supporter of Chancellor Lin, who attacks her with a knife. The members of the Overwatch Council rush behind the perpetrator, but he narrowly escapes.

The case becomes further complicated when Chancellor Lin reveals Mr. Yuan to be the one who committed the crime. According to him, Yuan tried to murder the victims during the journey. The newfound information stuns Fan Xian. But Chancellor Lin refuses to reveal who Mr. Yuan works for. Princess Yun Rui’s name also gets involved in the case, as Yuan was her guard for many years.

Meanwhile, Fan Xian’s father worries that Chancellor Lin’s acquaintances will throw unnecessary hate at Fan Xian if he carries out the investigation. On the other hand, Fan Xian accompanies Lin to the emperor’s palace. Lin instructs him to stay quiet and not intervene when he talks to the emperor.

As soon as they appear in front of the emperor, Chancellor Lin falls on his knees. The emperor is pleased with him, as his contributions have been beneficial for the Qing kingdom. To Fan Xian’s surprise, Lin apologizes to the emperor and confesses to committing a crime.

He mentions that he has been experiencing symptoms of old age and can’t commit to his role any longer. He urges the emperor to allow him to retire. But the emperor is not ready to free him, as he is an asset to the court. After a lot of convincing, the emperor decides to let him go, but he instructs Lin to leave his son, Da Bao, behind.
