Episode 1 of the new rom-com K-drama Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale debuted on Friday, May 31, 2024, on TVING. The episode introduces viewers to the central pair of the story, Shin Jae-Rim (Pyo Ye-Jin) and Moon Cha-Min (Lee Jun-Young). They are polar opposite individuals with different ideologies and values in life.

Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale Episode 1: Pyo Ye-Jin meets Lee Jun-Young for the first time in a chaotic situation
Episode 1 of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale begins with Shin Jae-Rim (Pyo Ye-Jin) losing her father. She now has to live with her stepmother and step-sisters. However, they are not mean to her. Her stepmother is even pregnant. Soon, Shin Jae-Rim realizes that her father has left them with a lot of debt. Thus, they end up in a distressing situation due to their poverty. She and her family even have to leave their old house and move somewhere cheaper after her father’s demise.
Thus, Shin Jae-Rim becomes determined to get a job to help herself and her family members in this situation. Apart from that, she also wants to look for a husband who will help her get out of this misery. It was her father’s last word of advice to her.
Meanwhile, the first episode also introduces the audience to the male lead of the story, Moon Cha-Min (Lee Jun-Young). He is a rich young man from a Chaebol family who owns a grand social club, Heaven. Despite living a luxurious life, he struggles with trusting anyone. He is always afraid of being betrayed by people around him, and most importantly, he is scared of death. Moon Cha-Min also despises fairytale romances.
Towards the end of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale episode 1, Shin Jae-Rim goes to give an interview for a manager position at Moon Cha-Min’s social club, Heaven. However, while going up the stairs, one of her shoes slips and falls down the stairs, only to drop on Moon Cha-Min’s head. Thus, she accidentally hits him in the head. After that, the two meet in the middle of the stairs. There, Moon Cha-Min completely misunderstands her and tells her that he will sue her for attempted murder. Thus, they have a very chaotic first meeting. The episode ends right there.
