K.J. Apa, known for starring as Archie Andrews in The CW’s Riverdale, is set to lead the new romantic comedy-drama Falling from Gulfstream Pictures. This marks the actor’s third project with the production company following 2019’s rom-com The Last Summer and the upcoming action film One Fast Move.
The New Zealand actor is currently filming Falling in the United Kingdom. The upcoming film, written and directed by Colin Krisel and James Krisel (Last Moment of Clarity), is produced by Gulfstream Pictures’ Mike Karz and Bill Bindley and Tempo Productions’ Piers Tempest. In addition to starring, Apa also serves as one of the executive producers alongside Tom Salentine, Dakota Rosen, and Mary Vernieu.
What is Falling about?
Falling will revolve around Apa’s Jack, an avoidant man who starts to open himself more when he starts dating a woman named Jillian. However, things take an unexpected turn when his best friend falls for Jillian, too.
The film’s description, courtesy of Deadline, reads: “Falling centers on Jack (Apa), who while quick-witted, charming, and avoidant, finally risks opening his heart when he starts dating Jillian. He never expected, though, that his best friend Johnny would fall for her, too.”
“We are thrilled to be making our third film with KJ, who has grown alongside us in our coming-of-age film ‘The Last Summer’ to a fearless motorcycle racer in ‘One Fast Move,’ to a charming English attorney in ‘Falling,’” Gulfstream Pictures said in a statement shared with Deadline.
Apa started his acting career in a New Zealand-based soap opera, Shortland Street, in which he starred as Kane Jenkins from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, the actor gained mainstream attention when he landed the lead role in the teen mystery drama Riverdale. His feature credits include A Dog’s Purpose, The Hate U Give, I Still Believe, Dead Reckoning, and Songbird.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle racing movie One Fast Move, which will also star Eric Dane, is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on August 8.
No release date has been set yet for Falling.
