Excitement is in the air as the makers of the highly anticipated sequel, Indian 2, have finally announced its release date. Recently, the production team took to social media to reveal that the movie will hit theaters in July 2024. Adding to the buzz, they also announced the release date for the first single, composed by the renowned musician Anirudh.
For those unaware, Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster movie Indian, which starred Kamal Haasan in a dual role as Veerasekaran Senapathy and Chandrabose (also known as Chandru). Directed by S. Shankar, the first installment also featured Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Sukanya, and others. Upon its release on May 9, 1996, Indian became a box office sensation and earned the title of the highest-grossing Tamil film of its time. The first installment is currently available to stream on Prime Video for those interested in watching.
In Indian 2, Kamal Haasan is reprising his iconic role. The ensemble cast includes Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Vennela Kishore, and Manobala. The film is directed by S. Shankar and produced under the joint banner of Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies.
When will Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 come to theatres?
Earlier, there was a buzz that Indian 2 would hit theaters on July 18, 2024. However, the production house recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the official release date along with details about the first single from the film. The post read, “Vanakkam INDIA! The 1st single from INDIAN-2 in Rockstar ANIRUDH musical is dropping on May 22nd! Get ready to welcome the comeback of SENAPATHY! Releasing worldwide in cinemas 12th July 2024.”
It is now official that Indian 2 is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2024. Adding to the excitement, the first single from the film, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, will drop on May 22. As for the digital release, the makers have not yet unveiled which platform has secured the streaming rights. However, the movie expectedly will be available on OTT platforms 45-60 days after its theatrical release.
