Actor and BJP-MP elect Kangana Ranaut, who recently won the Mandi seat in Lok Sabha elections 2024, was allegedly slapped by a woman constable of the CISF at the security area of Mohali airport. The incident has since sparked widespread debate and garnered significant media attention.
Kangana Ranaut slap incident: What did the CISF officer say about slapping Kangana?
Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF officer involved, stated that her actions were triggered by an old remark made by Kangana Ranaut about the farmers’ protest. In the viral video, Kaur can be heard saying, “Isne bayaan diya tha na 100-100 rupye ke liye baithi hain vahan pe. Ye baithi thi vahan pe? Meri maa baithi thi vahan pe jab isne bayaan diya tha (She had given a statement that women have joined the farm protests for Rs 100. Was she there? My mother was sitting there).”
Kaur is referencing Ranaut’s tweet in 2020 during the peak of the farmers’ protests, which sparked significant backlash. She tweeted about an elderly woman at one of the protests, insinuating she was “available for ₹100.” The public widely condemned this comment, forcing her to delete the tweet.
The footage, which quickly went viral, shows officers escorting Kangana Ranaut to a check-in counter. As she reached it, a verbal spat ensued. Although the video does not show the actual slap, the confrontation is evident.
In a subsequent video, Ranaut assured her followers of her safety. She stated (originally in Hindi), “First of all, I am safe, I am perfectly fine… As soon as I came out after the security check, a woman in another cabin, a CISF security staff, she waited for me to cross her and hit my face from the side. She started abusing me. When I asked her why, she said that she supports the farmers’ protest. I am safe but my concern is how we handle the terrorism and extremism that is increasing in Punjab.”
The incident has elicited mixed reactions from the public and media. Some support the officer’s frustration, while others condemn her actions.
