The Queens of the Dead cast has finally been revealed for the upcoming queer zombie comedy from Tina Romero. Love Lies Bleeding’s Katy O’Brian and Fire Island’s Margaret Cho are among the stars joining the gory feature.

The Queens of the Dead director keeps the legacy of her father, George A. Romero (the filmmaker behind cult classics Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead), with her own, unique spin on the genre. A queer-centered zombie movie, Queens of the Dead will center on a zombie apocalypse during a Brooklyn drag show, wherein drag queens and club kids are forced to put their personal dramas aside in order to fight the undead.

Who’s in the Queens of the Dead cast?

According to Deadline, Queens of the Dead will also star Brigette Lundy-Paine (I Saw The TV Glow) and Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story). Other names expected to appear in the upcoming feature are Dominique Jackson (Pose), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Nina West (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Eve Lindley (Bros), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Becca Blackwell (Bros), and Riki Lindhome (Knives Out).

The director revealed in a statement shared with the outlet that the stars joining the project are “the cast of [her] wildest dreams.”

“In a movie about survival, you gotta love and root for the survival crew. Every single person in this ensemble brings such a special and specific flavor -both on and off screen. The result is truly a magic sauce,” said Romero.

Similar to her late father’s utilization of the zombie apocalypse as an avenue to delve into sensitive themes, Romero intends to “take the torch and keep the Romero zombie alive” with her “own voice” and “own perspective.”

“My dad created this monster in the form that we all know it, and he used it as a way to look at society over the course of several decades,” Romero previously told Fangoria. “My dad’s zombies were always reflecting what was going on in the world, and I almost feel a responsibility to take the torch and keep the Romero zombie alive, upholding, respecting, paying homage to it, while also introducing myself and my own voice as a filmmaker, and my own perspective. Which is different from his.”

Romero also wrote the script for Queens of the Dead alongside Erin Judge.
