Kennedy sei ihn im Wahlkampf ein paar Mal angegangen, das habe ihm nicht gefallen. “Aber er ist eine phänomenale Person, ein phänomenaler Mann.” Wenige Stunden zuvor hatte Kennedy verkündet, sich aus dem Wahlkampf in den besonders umkämpften “Swing States” zurückzuziehen und ab sofort Trump zu unterstützen – das dürfte dem Republikaner im Rennen gegen die demokratische Präsidentschaftskandidatin Kamala Harris helfen. Nun erklärte Kennedy vor jubelnden Trump-Anhängern, er habe mit dem 78-Jährigen “nicht über die Dinge gesprochen, die uns trennen, denn wir sind nicht in allem einig, sondern über die Werte und Themen, die uns verbinden”. Das Publikum feierte ihn mit “Bobby, Bobby”-Sprachchören – seinem Rufnamen. “Ich denke, er wird einen guten Einfluss haben”, sagte Trump. Er und Kennedy würden “gemeinsam kämpfen, um das korrupte politische Establishment zu besiegen und die Kontrolle über dieses Land zurückzugewinnen”. Die Unterstützer Kennedys bat Trump darum, “sich dem Aufbau dieser Koalition anzuschließen”.
