Friday’s Five Facts

[1] ACS celebrating 3 years of service on Saturday – The Albuquerque Community Safety Department says they are making strides in helping residents who are suffering from mental health issues. The department’s team of unarmed behavioral health responders was created three years ago to alleviate the amount of 911 and 311 calls. The department says they respond to 360 behavioral health calls and 800 wellness checks every month.

[2] NM Department of Justice suing Snapchat over content concerns – After filing a lawsuit against the parent company for Facebook and Instagram, the state’s attorney general is suing another social media platform. The state department of justice says they created a fake snapchat account posing as a 14-year-old girl. Investigators claimed Snapchat’s algorithm instantly suggested a stream of inappropriate and sexually explicit adult recommendations. The lawsuit claimed that “Snapchat by far is the largest source of leaked videos and images.”

[3] Milder and drier Friday around New Mexico – High pressure starts building over the Four Corners this weekend, setting up another monsoon pattern in New Mexico. This will bring daily storm chances mainly in the mountains of northern, western, and central New Mexico. Storms will move south bringing rain chances to the adjacent areas later in the afternoon and evening.

[4] Recovery has events throughout September – September is national recovery month and there will be a series of events happening throughout the month aimed at celebrating people in recovery and providing resources for those who need them. Starting Friday, September 6 there will be a recovery art show at the El Chante Art Studio. On September 13, there will be a recovery pow wow at Civic Plaza. September 26 will be another recovery celebration at Civic Plaza.

[5] New special shape balloons to look for at the 52nd Balloon Fiesta – Old man gloom, giant parrots and even a semi truck will e among the new special shapes balloons at the 52nd International Balloon Fiesta. Those are just some of the 16 new special shapes balloons that were unveiled Thursday. The Balloon Fiesta runs October 5 – 13.
