[1] Documents shed light on suspect’s actions before alleged shooting of NMSP officer – New documents detail how Jaremy Smith, accused of killing NMSP officer Justin Hare, ended up in the state. Documents state the vehicle Smith was driving belonged to 52-year-old Phonesia Machado-Fore, an EMS worker in South Carolina. Investigators say GPS data place the car where Machado-Fore was found dead. Documents also state Smith and a friend may have sold guns while traveling through Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. Smith is facing the death penalty if convicted of his charges in New Mexico. Jury selection is expected to begin on June 10 at the federal courthouse in Albuquerque. 

[2] Man accused of Albuquerque murder arrested in Roswell – A teen accused of a December homicide in Albuquerque was arrested in Roswell. New Mexico State Police say they pulled over 18-year-old Juanito Montoya after they say he was speeding. Officers found Montoya had an outstanding warrant related to a homicide in Albuquerque. Montoya is accused of breaking into a car in southwest Albuquerque and shooting the owner when the owner confronted him. Montoya faces several charges, including murder.

[3] Windy and hot Monday around New Mexico – It will be a windy afternoon across the state, with 35 to 50 mph gusts for the Rio Grande Valley and western New Mexico, and winds up to 35 mph on the far east side of the state. Red flag warnings will be in effect for the Rio Grande Valley and west, due to the strong winds, very dry surface air, and above average temperatures.

[4] Expect delays on Bridge Boulevard May 20 through May 22 – Bernalillo County officials say drivers should expect delays on Bridge Blvd. as crews begin performing utility work along the road to energize and connect a newly constructed gas main. Work is scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. then again from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to help minimize disrupting rush hour traffic. The county says crews will be working through Wednesday, May 22.

[5] Albuquerque brewery hosts event to benefit turtle conservation – Canteen Brewhouse hosted the Beer and Turtle Conservation event Sunday. The event included live music, specialty beer and new merchandise. Proceeds from the event help support the Turtle Survival Alliance and their mission to restore turtle populations around the world. Volunteers at the event said box turtle’s are common around the state.
