[1] Thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise recovered after raid at Santa Fe home – Thousands of dollars in merchandise swiped from stores all around Santa Fe were found stashed in an unassuming home. Now, two people are behind bars as investigators sift through the evidence of a major retail theft operation.

[2] Family of armed Albuquerque man shot and killed during shoplifting incident sues city – The City of Albuquerque is facing a new lawsuit from the family of a man shot and killed by Albuquerque police. In November of 2023, officers chased an armed man accused of shoplifting near Cottonwood Mall. During the confrontation the man, later identified as Pete Martinez, pointed the gun at his own head while APD tried to talk him down. Officer Angelo Lovato eventually shot and killed Martinez after APD said Martinez raised his gun. APD confirms an investigation found the shooting was not in policy. The investigation is currently on-going.

[3] More scorching temperatures expected across New Mexico Friday – Friday morning is warm across New Mexico, with mostly to partly sunny skies. More moisture is making it feel humid in eastern NM and the middle to upper Rio Grande Valley. Clouds have been moving in from the south, and we will see cloudier skies today through the weekend, all across the state. Showers and storms will build over the mountain terrain this afternoon, and these will move off of the mountains to the lower elevations during the late afternoon and evening. However, not much rain will make it to the ground, and most areas will see more gusty winds and storm clouds compared to actual rain. Temperatures will climb back into the 90s and 100s, with more near-record hot temperatures.

[4] ABQ BioPark holding 30th birthday bash for June the giraffe – The ABQ BioPark is throwing a birthday bash for one of its residents. June is the oldest Reticulated giraffe at the BioPark and will be celebrating her 30th birthday. Experts say this is a significant milestone because the median age for a female of her species is 20-years-old.

[5] As New Mexicans are trying to decide what to do with their summer vacations, one small town is taking a unique approach at attracting visitors to their state park. The Village of Logan, just north of Tucumcari is launching their first tourism campaign for Ute Lake.
