[1] Village of Ruidoso works to rebuild after wildfires – The village of Ruidoso is recovering as residents return to survey the damage. The mayor says is the list of missing people has significantly decreased. There are still areas that some residents can’t return to until investigators give the all-clear. The village is working to get back to normal, working to get businesses back open and restore power across town.

[2] The state responds to the water need in Las Vegas following flooding – The community of Las Vegas continues facing a water shortage. Emergency managers say the city’s current treatment facilities are too weak to handle the amount of contamination flowing in from the flooding in nearby burn scars. The city is urging residents to limit their water usage to essential needs only. Water distribution will happen daily on a first come, first served basis from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Robertson High School. 

[3] Stormier weather after temperatures heat-up – Partly to mostly clear skies from the morning into the early afternoon for most of New Mexico, temperatures will rise into the 80’s, 90’s, and triple digits from north to south. Then, storms will form with the heat and moisture combining together to produce rain-cooled air later today. Flooding will be possible along the northern Rio Grande and the northern Pecos River valleys, but flash flooding will be very likely later today in the burn-scar areas from Santa Fe to Ruidoso.

[4] UNM researchers discover largest hummingbird is actually two species – Researchers from the University of New Mexico documented the world’s largest hummingbird’s migration and the giant hummingbird of western South America is actually two species. Researchers found the new species as part of an eight-year study. The northern population stays in the Andes Mountains year round while the newly discovered southern population migrates from sea level up to 13,000 feet.

[5] Albuquerque Concert Band performing free concert – The Albuquerque Concert Band will be performing a free concert at the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum on June 26, from 7 – 8 p.m. The performance will feature guest director Colonel Jim R. Keen. The Albuquerque native recently retired as conductor of the U.S. Army Field Band.
