Los Angeles County government and nonprofit officials came together at Alma Backyard Farms in Compton on Thursday morning, May 30, to celebrate the launch of a grant program that will see $10 million in federal funds — from the American Rescue Plan Act — distributed to 40 local organizations to build a more resilient and just food system.

The effort it part of the Los Angeles County Food Equity Roundtable, a cross-sector coalition between the county and regional philanthropies working together to advance food justice.

Thursday’s event also launched the LA County Office for Food Equity, and featured remarks from officials representing various organizations, who shared their plans to transform neighborhoods into healthier communities.
