The Lakers officially announced JJ Redick’s coaching staff on Monday.
Nate McMillan, Scott Brooks, Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Lindsey Harding and Beau Levesque will join Redick’s staff as assistant coaches. Michael Wexler will be the organization’s head video coordinator.
“Through an intentional and thorough process, we’ve brought together an experienced, diverse and dedicated coaching staff,” Redick said in a statement. “Our goal from day one is about fostering a high-performing environment of player development and team alignment through relentless work, daily collaboration and innovation.
“Players and staff are here to enjoy the pursuit of excellence every time they step on the court. The expectations are clear, and my staff and I are committed to doing everything we need to do to ensure success at the highest level.”
The hirings of McMillan, Brooks, St. Jean and Harding were previously reported, while Beyer and Levesque were reportedly targets of the Lakers shortly after the franchise officially hired Redick.
McMillan and Brooks, both of whom are former NBA head coaches, will serve as the top assistants.
McMillan, 60, was most recently the Atlanta Hawks’ head coach (2021-23) after being the head coach for the Indiana Pacers (2016-20), Portland Trail Blazers (2005-12) and Seattle SuperSonics (2000-05). He was also an assistant coach for the Sonics (1998-2000), Pacers (2013-16) and Hawks (2020-21) before becoming the head coach for those franchises. McMillan has a 760-668 all-time regular-season head coaching record. He has led his teams to the playoffs 11 times in 19 seasons, including two in which he was fired before the season ended.
Brooks, 58, was the head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2008-15) and Washington Wizards (2021-24) before most recently being the Blazers’ lead assistant under Chauncey Billups. He’s been coaching for more than 20 years after a 14-year playing career, including 10 in the NBA. The 2010 NBA Coach of the Year, Brooks has a 521-414 all-time regular-season record. A standout player at UC Irvine in the 1980s, Brooks coached his teams to the playoffs eight times out of 12 chances, including being at the helm of the Thunder during their run to the 2012 NBA Finals.
Beyer, a 17-year NBA coaching veteran, spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets. He’s also been on the coaching staffs for New Orleans Pelicans (2020-21), Sacramento Kings (2019-20), Thunder (2018-19), Detroit Pistons (2014-18), Charlotte Hornets (2013-14), Golden State Warriors (2012-13), Orlando Magic (2007-12) and Toronto Raptors (2003-04). On the college level, Beyer was the head coach at Sienna College from 1994-97 and was also an assistant coach at Dayton (2005-07), Texas Tech (2001-03) Northwestern (1997-2000), Wisconsin (1993-94), Sienna (1989-93), Albany (1985-89) and Alfred (1983-84).
St. Jean returns to the Lakers after being a player development coach from 2019-21. He spent last season as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns after two seasons (2021-23) in the same role with the Dallas Mavericks. St. Jean started his coaching career with Sacramento as a video coordinator (2013-14) and an assistant player development coach (2014-15) before spending four seasons (2015-19) as an assistant coach at St. John’s University.

Harding, who is the first female full-time assistant coach in franchise history, was the head coach of the Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G League affiliate, last season. She led Stockton to a G League-best 24-10 record during the regular season and was the first woman to win G League Coach of the Year. Harding spent four seasons as an assistant coach/player development coach for the Kings before becoming Stockton’s head coach. She has also been the head coach of the Mexico women’s national team and also coached the South Sudan women’s national team, which participated in the FIBA AfroBasket qualifier, becoming the country’s first team to enter a women’s tournament. Harding was a player development coach for the Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Kings. In 2018-19, she became the NBA’s first Black female pro personnel scout while working for the 76ers. Redick played for Philadelphia from 2017-19.
Levesque was a player development coordinator for the Clippers for the last four seasons (2020-24) after spending two seasons (2018-20) with the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant video coordinator and player development/video assistant. Levesque started his coaching career in 2016 at St. John’s, spending two years as a graduate assistant.
Wexler was a coaching associate for the Suns last season. He was the head video coordinator for the Minnesota Lynx during the 2023 WNBA season after being a video associate for the Houston Rockets in 2022-23. He was a video coordinator at Pepperdine, his alma mater, from 2021-22 after being a graduate assistant.
Redick, 40, replaced former head coach Darvin Ham, having never been a head coach above youth basketball.
