Lightning starts fire in San Mateo Mountains, west of Socorro

SOCORRO, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Forest Service says lightning has sparked a new fire west of Socorro. The fire, called the Fisher Fire, was reported July 1, 2024.

Fire crews were initially delayed due to weather issues, the Forest Service says. July 3, crews were able to access the fire to begin their response.
