The so-termed Summer of Steve begins today as Steve Earle announces Alone Again (Live), a new live collection from the legendary country singer-songwriter due to release on July 12 via Howe Sound Records. To lead the new collection, the artist has shared a new live version of his 1987 classic “I Ain’t Ever Satisfied,” stripping the roaring retro rocker back to a stirring acoustic cut. Earle’s announcement is coordinated with the outset of his Alone Again: Solo & Acoustic 2024 Summer Tour, which begins this Friday, May 31 with a show at Philadelphia, Ms.’s Ellis Theater.

Earle’s latest offering pours all the toughness and torment that made his original such a triumph at the outset of his career into this new recording of “I Ain’t Ever Satisfied,” which lingers a little longer on the words and the wisened voice behind them. This track–alongside the other fourteen classics that compose Alone Again, like “Copperhead Road,” “The Galway Girl” and “Guitar Town”–was set to tape onstage during Earle’s recent 2023 tour. Collectively, the songs arrive as a celebration of the artist’s vast catalog of hits and a celebration of his evolution and endurance over his four decades of performance. Read on for the album’s complete tracklist.

After his tour opener on Friday, Earle’s Alone Again: Solo & Acoustic 2024 Summer Tour will make 69 stops across North America through the summer. The icon’s cross-continental sweep will cross through major cities like Houston, Nashville, Toronto, Denver, Minneapolis and Montreal and include such high-profile stages as The Opry and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., before finally concluding in Evanston, Ill. at Cahn Auditorium on Sept. 8. On his imminent tour, Earle has offered, ”So, October before last I woke up without a band. I had toured with one version of the ‘Dukes’ or another since 1982, but the real continuous bloodline of the outfit died with my longtime bass player, Kelly Looney, in 2019. So, it seemed I’d come to a crossroads. Left? Right? I chose BACK. Back to performing solo like I did in coffeehouses when I first started.”

“I Ain’t Ever Satisfied” is available on all streaming services now. To pre-order and pre-save Alone Again (Live) and learn more about Earle’s plans for 2024, visit steveearle.com.
