Green Day are continuing to celebrate 30 years of their iconic ‘Dookie’ album – this time by sharing “demastered” versions of it on some unconventional formats.

The new announcement comes as two of their biggest albums, ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’, are celebrating their 30th and 20th anniversaries this year.
As well as promising fans that they would be playing both albums in full while on tour throughout this year, they also dropped a massive 30th anniversary box set for the former – filled with demos, outtakes and two seminal live recordings.
Now, ahead of the ‘American Idiot’ record getting a similar treatment and releasing a 20th anniversary box set later this month, Green Day have confirmed that the celebration of the 1994 classic is far from complete.
Announced today (October 9), Billie Joe Armstong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt have teamed up with LA art studio BRAIN to share a “demastered” version of the record.
In it, the 15 songs from the ‘Dookie’ tracklist have been transferred onto a range of unconventional, impractical and low-quality formats, including a doorbell, a Game Boy cartridge, a floppy disk and more.

“When an album hits a big milestone like its 30th anniversary, it gets the usual remasters on the usual formats. But ‘Dookie’ isn’t a usual album,” reads a new description on the band’s new website for the release.
“Instead of smoothing out its edges and tweaking its dynamic ranges, this version of Dookie has been meticulously mangled to fit on formats with uncompromisingly low fidelity, from wax cylinders to answering machines to toothbrushes. The listening experience is unparalleled, sacrificing not only sonic quality, but also convenience, and occasionally entire verses,” it added.
“The result is ‘Dookie Demastered’: the album that exploded the format of punk rock, re-exploded onto 15 obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient formats, the way it was never meant to be heard.”

In other Green Day news, the band were recently banned from two Las Vegas radio station’s playlists after the frontman declared the city “a shithole”.
Before then, it was confirmed that the trio were among artists who have been affected by a US copyright dispute on YouTube which has seen hundreds of iconic music videos pulled from the platform. The block affected more including Nirvana, Adele, Mariah Carey, Kendrick Lamar, R.E.M and more.
The band’s huge ‘Saviors’ tour continues into 2025 – visit here for remaining tickets – and fans have begun speculating that they could be heading to Glastonbury next year due to a gap in their tour schedule.
Earlier this summer, NME gave their show at Manchester’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground a glowing five-star review, and said, “Staying invigorated after three decades is no mean feat, but Green Day make it look effortless.”
