NME’s latest stars of The Cover, Kneecap, have shared a playlist exclusively to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Irish rap trio are on this week’s (June 3) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Kneecap here, written by Andrew Trendell and featuring photography by Joseph Bishop.

This month, Kneecap unveil their long-awaited full-length ‘Fine Art’ – a concept album set in their “favourite wee, dark, dingy pub” The Rutz. Filled with the ravey hip-hop that Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Próvaí have become known for, the record plays out in the form of a West Belfast night out. “The whole concept of the album is that we never really did spend that much time in nightclubs, because we love sniffin’ coke and talking shite,” says Bap.
Elsewhere in their Cover story, Kneecap talk to NME about keeping the Irish language alive, the various controversies they’ve been embroiled in – from a 2022 hometown mural to 2019 single ‘Get Your Brits Out’ to recent festival boycotts in support of Palestine – and their upcoming feature biopic, starring Michael Fassbender. “[The movie Kneecap] needed to feel genuine,” says Próvaí. “If it didn’t feel like something we would do, we just went, ‘No chance’.”
