Lobo basketball alumni game honors memory of fallen players

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a night that honored Lobo basketball history and players. It was also, in essence, a sendoff for this year’s Enchantment team as it prepares for the 2024 TBT as a game was held between plenty of Lobo legends.

The night began with a tribute to three former Lobo players who died this year. Videos were shown in the arena to honor Ruben Douglas, Drew Gordon and Greg Brown. Family members were then welcomed onto the court and presented a jersey.

“It’s sad that everybody had to come here for this to happen, but we have to come and stay together more often,” said former Lobo and NBA player Tony Snell. “It’s sad that those three legends just passed away like that but it’s good to come here and honor them in front of everybody.”

A “Greg Brown Three Point Contest” kicked off the basketball portion of the evening. After two preliminary rounds, the final matchup featured an Enchantment vs Enchantment shootout between Roman Martinez and Scott Bamforth. Martinez went on to win the event.

Once the game began, the alumni team (team Douglas) kept pace with The Enchantment (team Gordon). Tony Snell looked at home as he drained multiple three point shots with ease.

The game was tight down to the end. With the elam ending format, 72 was the target score. The Enchantment won the game 73-70.
