Longtime Deadhead, George Michaels Offers Literary Follow up to ‘Grateful Dead Tour Tales,’ Chronicling Concerts From 1988-1989

George Michaels, a long-time Grateful Dead enthusiast, has shared his unique perspective in the follow-up to his first literary entry, Grateful Dead Tour Tales, Volume One: 1984-1987. In his latest book, the author offers a fresh take on the epoch that marked the San Francisco jamband’s commercial success, presenting more stories from the road in Grateful Dead Tour Tales, Volume Two: 1988-1989

“For better or for worse, the Grateful Dead are back in style,” Michaels notes of the changing times, marking the band’s evolving esteem. The second entry of Michaels’ own experiences, which occurred from 1988-1989, picks up where Volume One left off, chronicling the author’s tellings of Grateful Dead concerts past, witnessed during the group’s prosperous late-80s era, which coincided with the arrival of their chart-topping hit, “Touch of Grey,” a drop that amassed fan-fueled pandemonium to get out and see a live show.

During the two-year period of 1988-1989, Michaels shares his experiences from over 50 Dead concerts. This is not just a story, but a post-coming-of-age journey as the main character and his friends embark on a ride they will never forget. Readers can look forward to retellings of ultra-rare break-out songs, adding an element of exclusivity to this era of live shows for the beloved jamband.
