Popular K-drama Love Next Door aired episode 5 on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 9:20 p.m. KST on tvN. Viewers can also watch the episode on Netflix. The series follows the story of two childhood friends, Choi Seung-Hyo (Jung Hae-In) and Bae Seok-Ryu (Jung So-Min). The two become acquainted after their mothers become friends. As adults, they reunite to reflect on their cherished memories and fall in love.
Episode 5 of Love Next Door saw a significant update on Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu’s relationship. While the former already had feelings for his friend, the episode documented the beginning of Seok-Ryu unknowingly developing feelings for Seung-Hyo. The arrival of Seung-Hyo’s ex-girlfriend further accelerated her feelings. Furthermore, this arrival also helped Seok-Ryu realize her dream of becoming a cook.

The recent episode of Love Next Door began with a flashback to when Seung-Hyo visited Seok-Ryu in the US. He sneaked into her room as the two spent quality time together. In the morning, he saw a text message she received from Brian, who had asked her about their date. After waking up, Seok-Ryu revealed Brian was her boyfriend and that she would like Seung-Hyo to meet him.
Choi Seung-Hyo discovers Bae Seok-Ryu’s feelings
The scene shifted to the present when Seung-Hyo and Seok-Ryu returned to the former’s office. Seok-Ryu offered to cook for her friend and made a delicious meal. Seung-Hyo got flustered after he saw Seok-Ryu looking at her fondly. He left the office after their friend Jeong Mo-Eum’s arrival. The two ladies discussed the concept of marriage when Seok-Ryu showed her pre-wedding photoshoot pictures.
Mo-Eum asked if Seok-Ryu had moved on completely from her fiance. However, Seok-Ryu revealed that she was still in love with him. At this moment, Seung-Hyo entered and offered to buy some drinks for the ladies, but Seok-Ryu decided not to drink when he saw her pictures on her phone. The following day, Seung-Hyo’s co-founder, Yoon Myung-Woo, asked Seok-Ryu if she would join them for Greip’s project.
Seung-Hyo expressed that it wouldn’t be fair for Seok-Ryu to work with her previous company and let her find her dream. They celebrated Seok-Ryu’s farewell at a restaurant where Seung-Hyo only hinted at leaving the past behind and moving forward.
An unexpected arrival shakes Choi Seung-Hyo & Bae Seok-Ryu’s feelings
Seung-Hyo grew more irritated with Seok-Ryu when she offered to help further on the project. The two argued when they were greeted by Seung-Hyo’s ex-girlfriend, Jang Tae-Hui. The latter expressed her desire to collaborate with Seung-Hyo and the company for one of her projects. Seok-Ryu then described their relationship as “passionate” to a fellow employee.
Seung-Hyo and Tae-Hui met Seok-Ryu. When Myung-Woo decided they could make it a workshop, Tae-Hui offered to have the company team members visit her onggi studio. At night, Seung-Hyo shared some drinks with Seok-Ryu’s father and slept in her brother’s room. Meanwhile, Seok-Ryu thought that her brother had been sleeping for a long and decided to wake him up harshly, only to discover it was Seung-Hyo.
After Seok-Ryu’s brother saw them in bed together, he suspected foul play. In order to stop him, Seung-Hyo ran behind him but hit his toe and injured himself. After consulting his father at the hospital and getting a cast, Seok-Ryu offered to take him to Tae-Hui’s studio. Meanwhile, Jeong Mo-Eum had a brief encounter with Kang Dan-Oh (Yoon Ji-On).
Choi Seung-Hyo & Bae Seok-Ryu have an argument
They reached Tae-Hui’s studio when Seok-Ryu discovered Tae-Hui not only made onggi pots but also the sauces and pastes that go inside it with the help of neighborhood ladies. They were helping the ladies when Tae-Hui suggested she and Seung-Hyo speak aside. The two confessed to having liked each other a lot. Tae-Hui further confessed that she took the work as an opportunity to bond with Seung-Hyo.
She offered to help Seung-Hyo make an onggi pot while Seok-Ryu headed to the washroom when she saw the two making the pot together. She then apologized for her interference and headed out. Later, she told Seung-Hyo how he and Tae-Hui would make a good pair if they got together. This only infuriated him more, as he asked Seok-Ryu not to meddle in his affairs.
The team joined in for the workshop while Seung-Hyo reflected on the time when he heard Seok-Ryu confess she was still in love with her ex-boyfriend. Meanwhile, Mo-Eum attended to an emergency patient who turned out to be Dan-Oh’s daughter. Back at the workshop, Tae-Hui asked someone to lend her a hand as she moved the paste back to the studio.
Upon Seok-Ryu’s insistence, Tae-Hui agreed. However, while moving the pot, it cracked open, leading to Seok-Ryu’s fall. Seung-Hyo scolded her harshly while Tae-Hui offered her clothes to change into. At night, Seok-Ryu made a delicious meal for the team.
Bae Seok-Ryu realizes her dream
After dinner, Seok-Ryu saw Tae-Hui’s arm was scarred. The latter said that the scars were a mark of her passion for making onggi pots. While speaking with Seung-Hyo, Tae-Hui revealed that she saw a different and a more bright side of him as he watched Seok-Ryu interact with the ladies at the workshop.
While walking around, Seok-Ryu realized Seung-Hyo had washed the stain on the shirt due to the paste back from when she fell. Seung-Hyo met with Seok-Ryu as she looked for a soy sauce that had been aged for 100 years. Once she found the sauce, she realized that her dream was to become a cook. On the other hand, Seung-Hyo realized he still had feelings for her.
