Man accused in deadly crash will stay behind bars through trial

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Miguel Chavez, the driver accused of being under the influence and causing a deadly crash will stay being bars through trial.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says Chavez admitted to smoking marijuana and falling asleep behind the wheel on August 20. According to a criminal complaint Chavez ran a red light, hit a pole, flipped his truck and hit three other vehicles. Chavez’s passenger, 49-year-old Ernesto Arreola was killed in the crash.

The state asked for Chavez to be locked up through trial, based on admitting to smoking marijuana before driving. Judge Emeterio Rudolfo agreed with the state and Chavez will be held behind bars through his trial.
